Food for Thought – 1st Quarter 2007
Continually reviewing and adding to your set of personal skills and offerings is a key attribute in successful career management. As you begin 2007, I urge you to think about two or three key areas where you would like to offer additional value to your employer, potential employer and/or customers. Then develop a specific plan of action for accomplishing those goals this year. Once, as I was thinking about new directions for my business and setting stretch goals that I wanted to work towards, I came up with an approach I like to call the “I SEEK” model. It goes like this:
Identify Goals
Strive for Situations (that contribute to your goals)
Engage with Others (to help achieve your objectives)
Evaluate (how you are doing, on a regular basis)
Keep the Course!
In other words, have clear goals in mind, then look for opportunities and people who can help you move in the right direction.
Speaking of new directions, I’m excited to share with you my new partnership with Vital Learning Corporation. Through Vital Learning, I now offer a series of Leadership courses which have proven invaluable to millions of corporate leaders, aspiring managers, supervisors and project managers over the past twenty years. Focusing on critical areas such as communication, performance development, managing conflict, building trust, and discipline, these courses are available on-line, in a classroom setting, or on a blended basis to my clients.
